Seed of Love

🎧 Listen to the original voice message in Spanish from La Jardinera:

My dear seeds,

Today a story has come to memory, one that we lived: Juan, (El Salvador, or the guanaco,) Lucia and yours truly.

We went to Tunisia, for these end of the year holidays and we were in Tunis and we went to visit the ruins of Carthage, also where the Phoenicians had passed. To places always very lonely, very precious. And we found an Oasis that was lost in a corner of the desert. It was beautiful because the weather was also wonderful and there we saw an old man from afar. Kneeling, he was on the ground, and surrounded by palm trees. Those date palms are the ones that give dates, because not all palm trees give dates, I thought they did, but no, only some give dates. And he was on his knees, there with a handful of dates, we watched him, because we didn't understand his language, we looked at him.

But one of his neighbors came, his neighbor was a very rich man, he was a camel seller, he sold camels and he also rented them, but he was very rich because he had many camels. And as he passed he looked at him, and stopped, put himself in the shade, to rest of course.

"Hello good man, what are you doing there, with a shovel in your hand and in full sun?" He said. And he kept asking him, he got closer to him and then the old man replied: “I'm planting dates.” The rich man with the camels replied to the old man (as he continued to dig because the old man kept digging.) “Dates! Leave that for someone else! And come and have a good cup of tea with me, here it's on me. We will chat a little and rest"

The neighbor was scandalized and said: "Hey, what are you doing with this sun? Let's have a cup of tea and he continued saying:" How is it possible that you are still there digging and planting dates? But the old man said no and said no to the invitation, and went about his business.

"Sorry, sorry to insist but how old is he already? The camel gentleman continued, "How old is he?"

"The truth is that I lost count 70, 80 long ago, because I don't know, I've really lost count and I don't even remember," replied the poor man.

Then the rich man, looking at him and feeling sorry for him, says “you see, I don't want to be impertinent but it takes at least 50 years for the palm trees to grow and begin to bear the first fruits, have you already thought about that? And I'm sure you won't even see them, because you won't get to see them ”said the man, a camel merchant. “You won't see it. 50 years from now you will not see them, nor will you taste them. " And the old man said: "You are not going to take me away from here, nor disarm me, nor discourage me, nor are you going to take away my illusion," he replied.

“I ate the dates that someone else planted, and now I am the one who has the honor of planting them. So that even those who have not been born can taste and enjoy them ”.

And he said it with these words, slowly so that he would understand that he was already sure that he could not eat them, but those who were to be born would have that joy and that illusion of eating dates as he did when he found those palm trees. Then the neighbor was so moved by the answer that he did not know what to say, as he always carried bags of money and coins, he took out a bag and gave it to the old man. To say thank you for the lesson.

My seeds, the rich man had everything, the only thing he lacked was humility, because humility is to give thanks and offer. The old man was offering the fruit that tomorrow those who had not been born will see, taste and taste. I was already thinking of new generations.

If each of us does the same in your garden, in the mountains, on the terrace on a balcony. We will not be able to plant dates in Rosa de Pyrenees because it is snowing and they will freeze, but we can plant pine trees or a pear tree, an apple, and other fruit trees. And above all perseverance. And what better gift than to offer the earth, a seed to grow like that tree and that seed that lives within us, that grows, grows, grows, until it reaches heaven and receives the caress of the Father and the Mother of the Heavens.

I have always told you that I have a garden and that I always plant my tomatoes, peppers, beans, salads of everything that is consumed, aubergines, think about it. Next year do it, and this will not happen like this year, when it was rare to find vegetables and fruit. You just have to collect good land, which gives the mountains or those who have chickens or cattle put it on the land and put seeds. And if it is not for you, for your children or for your grandchildren. And you will be rewarded, of course this man, dealer or camel merchant will not come, but you will have other gifts and other luck. We always, always have a gift, which is to open our eyes and contemplate life and the beings we love even from afar. Even from far away.

With all my love, your Jardinera.

Joy! Joy! joy! Sow that seed that will be a seed of love.
